Christina Muhs is a PhD Candidate in Tourism at the University of Algarve (UALG) and a PhD Student Member of the Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being (CinTurs). She holds an MSc with Distinction in Tourism and Event Management from Canterbury Christ Church University (United Kingdom) and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Tourism Management from Stenden University (Netherlands), including a specialisation semester (minor) in Wildlife Management and Lodge Management undertaken in South Africa. Her research interests focus on emerging tourism mobilities, sustainable tourism development, and socio-cultural dimensions of contemporary travel phenomena, with particular emphasis on the vanlife movement as a vehicle-based hypermobile lifestyle and travel practice. Her doctoral research contributes to conceptualising vanlife within tourism studies and explores its implications for destinations, sustainability, and tourism management. Her research outputs include publications in peer-reviewed, Scopus-indexed journals (Q1 and Q2), addressing topics such as vanlife conceptualisation and motivations for participation in festival tourism contexts. She has presented her research at several international conferences, including the Royal Geographical Society Annual Conference (RGS-IBG), the Global Tourism and Leisure Research Conference, and academic conferences organised by the University of Algarve and international research networks. Christina Muhs has participated in specialised training activities and workshops in tourism research methods, including visual methodologies, qualitative approaches, and research communication skills. She has contributed to academic community activities through conference participation, peer engagement, collaborative initiatives, and active involvement in research networks. She has further contributed to the academic community by preparing and delivering presentations and webinars within the CinTurs PhD Network and the Global Leisure and Tourism Research Group (GLTRG), supporting knowledge exchange and scholarly collaboration in tourism studies. Her academic background combines international study experience with interdisciplinary perspectives on tourism, sustainability, and contemporary mobility practices.
