Full Professor of Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management. PhD holder in Economic Science, specialized in Econometrics, he also holds both an MA in Econometrics by the School of Economics of the University of Manchester and an MSc in Mathematics Applied to Economics and Management by the University of Lisbon. Professor Rebelo has been a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics and his publications are mainly in the field of theoretical and applied quantitative methods. Previously he was the Dean of the Faculty of Economics. Currently, he is the President of the Scientific Committee and the Director of the PhD Programme in Economic and Management Sciences. He is also a member of the General Council of the University of Algarve.
João Albino Matos da Silva (jsilva@ualg.pt)
Full Professor of Economics and a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics, he holds both a PhD and an MA in Economics by the University of Lisbon. Professor Silva is the Chair of the Economics Department and the Director of the PhD Programme in Tourism. He is also the President of the National Commission for the Assessment of University Tourism Programs. His current research interests and publications include economics of tourism, development of tourism destinations, sustainability and governance in tourism.
João Pinto Guerreiro (jguerreiro@ualg.pt)
Full Professor of Economics, Professor Guerreiro holds an MSc in Rural and Environment Planning by the Agricultural Mediterranean Institute of Zaragoza and a PhD in Economic Science. He has been a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics and his publications are mainly in the field of regional economic development and innovation. Previously he was the Rector of the University of Algarve. Currently, he is the President of the National Commission for the Access to Higher Education.

Patrícia Susana Lopes Guerrilha dos Santos Pinto (pvalle@ualg.pt)
Associate Aggregated Professor, Professor Pinto is a PhD holder in Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management, specialized in Statistics. Professor Pinto is also the Vice-president of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics, a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Programme in Tourism and the Chair of the Quantitative Methods Department. Her current research interests include applied statistics in the areas of integrated quality management in tourism destinations, events management, tourism destinations image, branding, marketing strategies, customer satisfaction, and environmental behaviour.
Sérgio Pereira dos Santos (ssantos@ualg.pt) Associate Professor in Management, chair of the Management Department and Coordinator of the Centre for Advanced Studies and Training in Management and Economics. He is also the Director of the Master Course in Health Care Services Management and a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Programme in Economic and Management Sciences. Previously, he was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics. He holds an MA in Economics and Econometrics by the School of Economics of the University of Manchester and a PhD in Management Science by the University of Strathclyde. His main research interests include performance measurement and management in both the private and public sectors. He has published some of his research in international journals such as Omega, the International Journal of Production and Operations Management, the Journal of the Operational Research Society and the Health Care Management Science journal.

PhD holder in Economic Science, Professor Mesquita’ s main research interests focus on the broad area of economic history. His publications are mostly related to the region of Algarve.
Rui José da Cunha de Sousa Nunes (rnunes@ualg.pt)
Associate Professor of Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management, he is the actual Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve and the Director of the PhD Programme in Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management. Professor Nunes holds both a PhD and an MA in Economics, specialized in Econometrics, by the School of Economics of the University of Manchester, and an MSc in Mathematics Applied to Economics and Management from the University of Lisbon. Previously, he was a member of the General Council of the University of Algarve. His research interests are mostly in the field of quantitative methods applied to economics.

Ana Paula Catarino Barreira (aprodrig@ualg.pt) PhD holder in Economics and an MA holder in Economic and Management Sciences, Professor Barreira is a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics and a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Programme in Economic and Management Sciences. Her research is in political and electoral cycles in government spending, fiscal federalism applied to the Portuguese municipalities and spatial effects. Recently, she was the national delegate for the Management Committee in the European project COST: "Cities regrowing smaller - fostering knowledge on regeneration strategies in shrinking cities across Europe".
Jorge Miguel Lopo Gonçalves Andraz (jandraz@ualg.pt)
PhD holder in Economics and MA holder in Economic and Management Sciences, Professor Andraz is an Aggregated Professor of Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management. He is a member of the Centre for Advanced Studies and Training in Management and Economics and a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Programme in Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management. Currently, he is the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and the Director of the new Master Course in Financial Economics. He authored several books related to the macroeconomic effects of public investments, and several articles published in international journals in the area of applied econometrics focusing on macroeconomic issues related to economic growth, the effects of public policies and tourism.
José de São José (jsjose@ualg.pt) PhD holder in Social Sciences, specialty of General Sociology, by the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon. Professor José is the Director of the Bachelor Course in Sociology at the University of Algarve. His main interests and published work focus on qualitative data analysis and on household sociology. Pedro Miguel Guerreiro Patolea Pintassilgo (ppintas@ualg.pt) PhD holder in Natural Resource Economics by the New University of Lisbon, Professor Pintassilgo as an Aggregated Professor. He is the Director of the Master Course in Tourism Economics and Regional Development and a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics. He has published in influential journals in the fields of environmental economics and tourism economics.

Professor Flores is a PhD holder in Management. He also holds an MA in Economics and Management Sciences. His main research interests are tourism destinations management and governance, tourism innovation and development of products. Professor Matias is a PhD holder in Economics and an MA holder in Economic and Management Sciences. Previously, he was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and nowadays he is the Director of the Bachelor Course in Economics at the University of Algarve. His main research interests are environmental and resource economics, and tourism economics.

Professor Sequeira has a PhD degree in Sociology and a Master degree in Organization and Information Systems by the University of Évora. Her research interests and publications are mainly in labour sociology and sociology of organizations.

A member of the Centre for Advanced Studies and Training in Management and Economics and a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Programme in Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management. Previously, Professor Amado was the Director of the Bachelor Course in Business Administration. She holds an MA in Economics and Econometrics by the University of Manchester and a PhD in Industrial and Business Studies by the University of Warwick. Her main research interests include performance measurement and management in the public sector. Carlos Joaquim Farias Cândido (ccandido@ualg.pt)
Professor Cândido is a member of the Centre for Advanced Studies and Training in Management and Economics. He is also the Director of the Master Course in Economics of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Programme in Quantitative Methods Applied to Economics and Management. He holds an MSc in Management and Strategy by the ISCTE Business School of the Lisbon Institute and a PhD in Strategic Management by the Business School of the Sheffield Hallam University. His main research interests are business strategy and quality management, and he has published both in national and international journals.
Cristina Maria Pereira Viegas de Oliveira (colivei@ualg.pt)
PhD holder in Management, Professor Viegas also holds an MA in Management by the University of Lisbon. She is a member of the Centre for Advanced Studies and Training in Management and Economics and a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Programme in Economic and Management Sciences. Previously, she was the Director of the Master in Business Management. Now, she is the Director of the new Master in Management. Her research interests are financial derivatives, real options and mathematical finance and she has published both in national and international journals.
Dora Agapito (dlagapito@ualg.pt) PhD holder in Tourism, she also holds an MA in Marketing and a BSc in Communication Sciences. She is the program leader of the master course Tourism Organizations Management and a member of the Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being (CinTurs). Previously, she was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Lincoln, UK, and she was awarded the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in the UK. She has published her research in international journals such as Tourism Management, Annals of Tourism Research, European Planning Studies, and Destination Marketing & Management. Her research focuses on responsible tourism management, sensory-informed tourist experiences, destination management, sustainable tourism experiences, consumer psychology and social marketing.
Eugénia Maria Dores Maia Ferreira (ecastela@ualg.pt)
Professor Ferreira is the Director of the Master in Business Management and has been a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics. She is a PhD holder in Statistics by the University of Salamanca, and an expert on Multivariate Data Analysis. Her fields of research are data analysis in the areas of management, marketing, tourism, sociology and political science.

PhD holder in Statistics by the University of Salamanca and an expert on Multivariate Data Analysis, Professor Castela has been a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics. His fields of research involve Quantitative and Qualitative Methods Applied to areas such as Health Management, Business Strategy, Marketing, Tourism and Sociology.

Professor Martins has both a PhD degree and a Master degree in Sociology by the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, New University of Lisbon. His most relevant work focus in sociology of education and in social inequalities.

Professor Marques is the Director of the Master Course in Sociology and a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Programme in Sociology. Professor Mendes is a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics. He is also a member of the coordinating body of the PhD Programme in Tourism. His current research interests include excellence and integrated quality management in tourism destinations, tourism experience, events management, tourism destinations image, and branding and customer satisfaction.

Professor Coelho holds an MSc in Finance by the University of Algarve, an MSc in Management Research by the School of Management of the University of Cranfield and a PhD in Management from the Business School of the University of Edinburgh. He is a member of the Centre for Advanced Studies and Training in Management and Economics. He is both the Director of the Bachelor Course in Management and the Director of the Master Course in Corporate Finance. He has authored several papers in the area of finance and accounting, namely on bankruptcy, and has been an Associate Fellow of the Accounting, Markets and Organizations Group at the Warwick Business School. More recently, Professor Coelho has been also in charge of the 2nd cycle postgrad sector of the Faculty.

Professor Madeira is a PhD holder in Economics and an MA holder in Agrarian Economy and Rural Sociology by the University of Lisbon. She is an expert on rural economy. Currently, she is the coordinator for incoming Erasmus students.

She is also the Director of the Master Course in Marketing Management. Her research focus is cultural tourism, marketing management, and tourism destinations.

Sje is a PhD holder in Organizational Psychology and an expert on Strategic Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior. Both PhD holder and MA holder in Regional Economics and Local Development, Professor Cesário is the coordinator of the international mobility Erasmus programs in the Faculty, namely for outgoing students. She is also the Vice-President of the Pedagogical Council. Her research interests focus on regional economy issues and on microeconomics in general.

Professor Peixinho holds an MSc in Finance by the University of Algarve, an MSc in Management Research by the University of Cranfield and a PhD in Management, specialized in Accounting and Finance, by The University of Edinburgh. He is a member of the Centre for Advanced Studies and Training in Management and Economics who has authored several papers in the area of accounting and finance. He is also the Director of the Master Course in Accounting. His main research interests are in market based accounting, financial distress and security analysis.

Invited Professors
Aires Erich M. N. Vaz (emvaz@ualg.pt) Professor Vaz holds a PhD in Information Management, specializing in Geographic Information Systems, awarded by the New University of Lisbon. He is Vice-President of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics. Editor of Elsevier’s Habitat International, he is completing a monograph for Springer dealing with the regional challenges in Southern Europe. He is also an Associate Professor at the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Ryerson University, where he has developed a Laboratory for geo computation. With many scholarly contributions published in some of the best international journals, he is an expert in the integration of complex systems and spatial analysis methods applied for regional decision-making processes, geographic information systems and regional science. Hugo Emanuel dos Reis Sales da Cruz Pinto (hpinto@ualg.pt) PhD holder in Governance, Knowledge and Innovation by the University of Coimbra, Professor Pinto also holds a Master in Regional Economics by the University of Algarve. He has been project manager in several R&D institutions in Portugal, namely at the University of Aveiro, and a permanent researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra. He has participated in the preparation of strategic documents, and in the implementation of European projects. His research interests and publications focus on regional innovation systems, knowledge production and transfer, and varieties of capitalism. Recently he has edited “Resilient territories: Innovation and Creativity for New Modes for Regional Governance” with Cambridge Scholars Publishing. Luiz Montanheiro (l.montanheiro@sheffield.ac.uk) Professor Montanheiro holds an MPhil degree in Economics from the University of Bath (UK). His main research interests are in the areas of strategic management and business ethics. He is the academic partnership advisor for the Britannia School of Business in Sheffield-UK. He has published articles in international scientific journals and has authored books and book chapters. He was the director of the MBA program offered by the Sheffield Business School. He is a chief editor and editorial board member of several international scientific journals. At present, Luiz Montanheiro is a part-time professor at the Sheffield University and the Sheffield Hallam University. Nelson de Matos (nmmatos@ualg.pt) PhD holder in Tourism from the Faculty of Economics, University of the Algarve. He is a Professor at the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism, and a member of the Research Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics. He has authored several publications in tourism and marketing. His current research interests include tourism and marketing topics, related with destinations, image, experiences, consumer behavior, strategic management, branding.
